About Us
Carbon Zero Initiative works to accelerate the transition to clean energy and mitigate global heating by placing people and nature at the centre of the narrative. By establishing a new interconnected network of clean energy, we can break our dependence on fossil fuels, mitigate climate change impacts, and foster a healthier and more sustainable future for all Australians.
Carbon Zero Initiative was founded in 2023 to advocate for a carbon zero Australia by 2040. For the next few years it will focus on the significant network effects unlocked by hastening the energy transition in Tasmania.
58% of all of Tasmania’s energy comes from fossil fuels. We still have more to do to get to 100% clean energy.
Carbon Zero Initiative works to highlight benefits of clean energy and address legitimate concerns about the cost, speed and scale of the clean energy transition.
By working with leaders across Tasmania, we hope to bring everyone along on the journey, and will pave the way for a fast, fair and sustainable clean energy future.
We advocate for:
Tasmania and Australia to be powered by 100% clean energy (all energy) by 2040
Social and economic benefits of clean energy projects to accrue with communities
Protections for biodiversity and nature, via regional strategic land use planning, and in accordance with state and federal environmental laws
Strategic land use planning and regional clean energy manufacturing and industrial precinct plans
Carbon
Lower power and fuel prices, local jobs and cleaner air. These are just some of the local benefits created by the transition to clean energy.
Stakeholders
We work with communities to address concerns and highlight benefits of the transition to clean energy.
Nature
The biggest threat to nature remains 2°C or greater global heating. We minimise impacts to nature via robust land use planning.
